So how about that Rona?

I think it’s fairly well understood that people who share a Trauma together end up bonding over it. It’s kindof how Stockholm Syndrome works, I think, you’re in a bad situation with someone and so you end up relating over it. In that way, COVID-19 has been pretty useful because DAMN IF WE DON’T ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON NOW.

I’m a strong believer in laughing through the pain so I’m just going to make fun of the whole situation with a not particularly well researched diatribe about the whole mess.

How did we get into this mess?

  • A guy ate a bat
  • Our elected officials are morons

Depending on where you live, it could be both.

So COVID-19 is nothing special in a lot of ways, Coronavirus is a family of maladies like the Rhinovirus (which is a common Cold, I know, I was disappointed too), but the latest “novel” strain was discovered in 2019, hence COVID-19. I know, it feels weird to start at 19, like was the pilot episode any good, it’s almost at COVID 22 when the season wraps up but trust, it’s going to be a good time. Well, it won’t be, it’ll be an awful time for several weeks. But hey.

The big thing that’s blown up about COVID-19 is it’s R rate, which is pretty damn high, and the fact that depending on where you live your government is either grossly, almost maliciously incompetent (Hi Boris) or so on top of things they can release a diss track to the rest of the world and have less sniffles in the middle of Winter than the rest of the world has in summer (Hi Jacinda).

It’s easy to blame governments for this, and it’s also largely valid, but there is a component of the country that’s at play too. Like, Japan did a way better job handling this than most of Europe – why is that? Better Leadership under Abe? A swift and decisive quarantine?

Well, no, the best thing you can do for Coronavirus is not touch people and wearing a face mask. Know what you’ll see in every Japanese convenience store this time of year?

This would be the equivalent of a global pandemic where the best protective measure was drinking way too much booze, the UK would be borderline immune.

Culturally, they were so well adapted for this that I’m surprised they aren’t somehow in the negative numbers for cases.

But out of the darkness comes some light, I guess. The absolute garbage fire that has been the world’s reaction of COVID-19 has lead to a lot of people learning new skills, finding more time for hobbies. Launching awful self-indulgent web-sites and spending money they could have spent on damn near anything else on a URL so vain that I still can’t make eye contact with myself in the bathroom mirror. You know, a range of responses.

I myself have had to find new ways to go shopping which, uhhh…

Went Great.

Anyway, waiting for our second spike here in the UK, will update thoughts and feelings as it happens.

Kindof a bleak first blog post though, hope these pep up a bit.
